LEO
LEO
Often Pharaohs, Kings and mighty men of war depicted their victories in bas-relief friezes. Because Lions are such regal predators their images were often associated with royalty in victorious battle or royal hunting scenes. In creating this large bas-relief I imagined the joy of unearthing this ancient artifact, though greatly damaged, still having this awesome image somewhat intact.

I sculpted this piece with oil based clay and my favorite wooden clay tool. I made all of the rock textures and layers with one single little triangular stone that I found in my driveway . Simply by keeping the stone relatively wet I found I could press the stone into this permanently pliable clay and leave a perfect stone texture .
